Kay Thornton

Kay Thornton is a ministry leader and financial services professional with a passion for helping people improve their lives. As an African American woman with two male sons, I have faced countless instances of racism throughout my career in banking, as well as in championing my sons' education.  Like many other women, I have spent a lot of time playing dual roles. Trying to fit in and defy stereotypes to get ahead or be accepted. Going Blackwards is for women who are tired of hearing about another young black male gunned down by police or another senseless shooting in our neighborhoods. It's for women who feel embarrassed when they see other black women behaving or responding to a situation inappropriately. Going Blackwards is for those who would like to see our communities the way they used to be – when we raised our children together - ensuring that they have a relationship with God; a community of support; live a life of service and know how to encourage others. “If we lift others up and show them that by faith, if they stay focused on God and follow through on their commitments, we can re-define our brand as African Americans, build disciples for Christ and restore our communities.”

Goingblackwards?

Goingblackwards? Rebuilding Our Communities with Faith, Focus, and Followthrough – One Moment at a Time.

What do you do when you’re sitting in a five-star restaurant with friends,, enjoying a nice dinner, and a woman who looks like you starts shouting and causing a scene?

Or maybe you are watching television and seeing another black mother just like you, crying because her son has been senselessly killed by the police?

With our busy lives and everything that we have going on today – how can you and I make a fundamental difference in the way our black community is perceived?

Just Go Blackwards.

Take fifteen minutes a day to practice three simple steps of Faith, Focus and Follow-Through; ask yourself what will happen if you don’t help that person, and then start rebuilding your community one moment at a time.
